Small gesture, big impact: Darby Library Technician cares for Community

What started as a simple gesture of kindness at a local library has blossomed into a wider effort supporting women across the U.S. Army Garrison Italy, Darby Military Community footprint.
Ani Belnavis, a library technician at the DMC Post Library, stepped up to provide emergency feminine hygiene products in the Darby Community Center restrooms. Recognizing an everyday need, Belnavis organized the initiative herself, so community members are never caught unprepared. After seeing its impact, she expanded the service to the headquarters ladies' restroom.
"I actually got the idea when visiting Scotland," Belnavis said. "At one castle, they had feminine hygiene products available in the bathroom for anyone in need. I thought it was such a thoughtful idea and wondered, 'Why don't we have this at work?'"
Belnavis noted that unexpected cycles are a normal reality, aiming to provide discreet, stress-free access to essentials.
"This is an act of courtesy from a woman to all women," Belnavis explained. "I liked the idea of women helping other women. Sometimes it's the smallest resources that make people feel supported."
